The first European EPC Facilitators training was organized by RVO in Utrecht

On 6 October 2017 the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl) organized an EPC facilitators training in Utrecht.

RVO.nl invited international and national experts as key-note speakers for a mini college. 15 EPC facilitators participated, as well as several financial and legal experts.

According to Jan Bleyl, advisor to the IEA, the question is not IF we should implement EE, but HOW to implement best? Because EE leads to multiple benefits. Building owners should come to a “Make or Buy” decision and should make use of EPC in case they opt for “Buy”, because it is a proven construction. Bleyl also calls for leadership: “We need decisive leaders who believe in this approach.”

According to Petra Heemskerk, lawyer at CMS “Building owners have fear for the unknown, want to be in control and to follow the rules, and are very traditional in procurement. We need innovation. Most building owners think tendering is quite complex, but European Procurement regulation offers many opportunities.”

André Salomonson, expert at ResetManagement stated. “In fact we have to deal with an Energy Transition. We have to create trust and support, and we have to break through existing patterns. Energy Transition needs unreasonable people.”

The main conclusion was that we need an enormous acceleration and breakthrough to realize our EE goals. EPC is an important way to increase the sustainability of real estate. This Energy Transition calls for leadership, ambition and new cooperation models.
